Honest status: QuoteZila is pre-launch. Customers cannot post jobs yet, and no businesses are listed yet. This page explains how QuoteZila will work for electricians, and for homeowners who need one. We are signing up local businesses first, starting in Cheshire.
What does an electrician do?
An electrician installs, tests and repairs the wiring and fittings in homes and small businesses. Typical jobs include:
- Replacing a fuse board (consumer unit)
- Full and partial rewires
- Extra sockets, lighting and spotlights
- Electrical safety checks and EICRs for landlords and home buyers
- EV charger installation
- Fault finding and repairs
- Smoke and heat alarm installation
- Power to garden offices and outbuildings
What should I check before hiring an electrician?
General guidance, whichever way you find someone:
- Ask whether they are registered with a competent person scheme such as NICEIC or NAPIT, and verify it on the scheme's own website.
- Ask which certificate you will get: usually an Electrical Installation Certificate or Minor Works Certificate for new work, or an EICR for an inspection.
- Notifiable domestic work in England must comply with Part P of the Building Regulations. A registered electrician can self-certify; otherwise building control must be told. Ask who will handle this.
- Ask whether they carry public liability insurance.
- Get a written quote that says what is included, such as making good plaster after cables are chased in.
Useful official sites: NICEIC · NAPIT. QuoteZila is not affiliated with these organisations.
QuoteZila plans to show customers what we checked about each business and when. Those labels describe checks only and are not a guarantee of any business or its work.
How will QuoteZila help me find electricians near me?
- Post your job for free. Describe the electrical work and where you are.
- Matched local businesses send quotes. Each job is planned to go to a small number of suitable businesses, not the whole town.
- Compare. See what each quote includes, ask questions and review what has been checked.
- Choose. Pick who you want and agree the details in writing.
This is how QuoteZila is designed to work. Customer posting is not open yet.
What should I put in my electrician job description?
- Say how old the property is and, if you know it, what type of fuse board you have.
- Describe the fault or the new work: how many sockets, lights or circuits.
- For EV chargers, say where you park and where the meter and fuse board are.
- Note any deadline, such as a house sale or a tenancy start.
Are you an electrician in Cheshire? How can you get local work with no lead fees?
QuoteZila is built so that local businesses spend their time quoting, not buying enquiries. Our intention is no lead fees: you would not pay per enquiry, per job or per quote. The first 500 businesses to join at launch (the Launch 500) get 2 months free with no card needed. After that the planned price is £15 a month, starting later and only once you accept the terms. That is our current plan, not a contract. Choose Electrical as your main trade on the sign-up form and tell us how far you travel.

Which Cheshire towns will QuoteZila cover?
We are launching first in Crewe, Nantwich, Sandbach, Congleton, Winsford, Middlewich, and the wider county. See the Cheshire areas page for details. A launch area is where we plan to start, not a claim that electricians are already listed there.
Frequently asked questions about electricians
Do electricians have to be registered?
Electrician is not a legally protected title in the UK, but notifiable electrical work has to meet Building Regulations. Many homeowners choose an electrician registered with a competent person scheme. Ask, and verify the registration yourself.
What is an EICR and do I need one?
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is an inspection of the existing wiring. Landlords of privately rented homes in England must have one at least every five years, and some buyers ask for one. Ask your electrician which certificate you will receive.
When should a fuse box be replaced?
An electrician can advise after inspecting it. Common reasons include an older unit without modern protection, damage, or adding new circuits. Please do not guess: have it looked at by a qualified person.
