Honest status: QuoteZila is pre-launch. Customers cannot post jobs yet, and no businesses are listed yet. This page explains how QuoteZila will work for joiners and carpenters, and for homeowners who need one. We are signing up local businesses first, starting in Cheshire.
What does a joiner or carpenter do?
Joiners and carpenters work with wood. Traditionally, joiners make items such as doors, windows and stairs, often in a workshop, while carpenters work on site on structures such as floors, stud walls and roof timbers. Many do both. Typical jobs include:
- Fitted wardrobes, shelving and alcove units
- Internal doors, frames and ironmongery
- Skirting boards, architraves and panelling
- Staircases and balustrades
- Kitchen fitting, including worktops
- Stud walls and loft boarding
- Decking, pergolas and garden structures
- Bespoke furniture and repairs to timber windows
What should I check before hiring a joiner or carpenter?
General guidance, whichever way you find someone:
- Ask to see photos of similar work, and whether they make items themselves or buy them in.
- Ask for a quote that names the materials, such as solid timber or MDF, and the finish.
- Clarify whether painting or staining is included or separate.
- Ask who measures, who orders materials and how long the lead time is for made-to-measure items.
- Changes to stairs, structural walls or fire doors can have Building Regulations implications. Ask whether they apply to your job.
- Ask whether they carry public liability insurance.
QuoteZila plans to show customers what we checked about each business and when. Those labels describe checks only and are not a guarantee of any business or its work.
How will QuoteZila help me find joiners and carpenters near me?
- Post your job for free. Describe the joinery work and where you are.
- Matched local businesses send quotes. Each job is planned to go to a small number of suitable businesses, not the whole town.
- Compare. See what each quote includes, ask questions and review what has been checked.
- Choose. Pick who you want and agree the details in writing.
This is how QuoteZila is designed to work. Customer posting is not open yet.
What should I put in my joiner or carpenter job description?
- Describe what you want made or fitted, with rough measurements and a photo of the space.
- Say whether you have a design in mind, or want help with one.
- Say if you want a particular material or finish.
- Say if decorating will be done afterwards by someone else.
Are you a joiner or carpenter in Cheshire? How can you get local work with no lead fees?
QuoteZila is built so that local businesses spend their time quoting, not buying enquiries. Our intention is no lead fees: you would not pay per enquiry, per job or per quote. The first 500 businesses to join at launch (the Launch 500) get 2 months free with no card needed. After that the planned price is £15 a month, starting later and only once you accept the terms. That is our current plan, not a contract. Choose Carpentry & joinery as your main trade on the sign-up form and tell us how far you travel.

Which Cheshire towns will QuoteZila cover?
We are launching first in Crewe, Nantwich, Sandbach, Congleton, Winsford, Middlewich, and the wider county. See the Cheshire areas page for details. A launch area is where we plan to start, not a claim that joiners and carpenters are already listed there.
Frequently asked questions about joiners and carpenters
What is the difference between a joiner and a carpenter?
Traditionally a joiner makes finished timber items, often in a workshop, while a carpenter builds and fixes timber structures on site. In practice many tradespeople do both, so describe the job and let businesses tell you if they can do it.
Can a joiner fit my kitchen?
Many can fit units and worktops, but a full kitchen also needs plumbing, electrics and often plastering and tiling. Say in your job description whether you want one business to manage everything or only the carpentry.
Is made-to-measure joinery more expensive than off-the-shelf?
It depends on the materials, size and finish, and we do not publish price guides. Compare written quotes for the same specification.
