What does a tiler do?
A tiler lays ceramic, porcelain, stone and other tiles on walls and floors, preparing the surface and finishing with grout and sealant. Typical jobs include:

- Wet room waterproofing and tiling
- Patio and outdoor porcelain tiling

What should I check before hiring a tiler?
General guidance, whichever way you find someone:
- Ask how the surface will be prepared. Flat, dry and stable surfaces matter more than the tiles themselves.
- Ask whether the quote includes adhesive, grout, trim and waste removal, and who is buying the tiles.
- For showers and wet rooms, ask how the area will be waterproofed.
- Ask to see photos of similar work they have done, and keep in mind that large-format tiles need more skill to lay.

What should I put in my tiler job description?
- Say which areas: walls, floors or both, and how big they are.
- Give the tile size and type if you have chosen them, or attach a link or photo.
- Say what is under the tiles now, such as old tiles, boards or screed.
- Mention whether underfloor heating is fitted.

Frequently asked questions about tilers
Should I buy the tiles myself?
Either is possible. Buying them yourself gives you more choice, while some tilers can supply them. Agree who is responsible for ordering, how much spare to allow and what happens if tiles are damaged.
Can new tiles go over old ones?
Sometimes, if the old tiles are firmly stuck and flat, but it adds height and is not always suitable. A tiler can tell you once they have seen the walls or floor.
Can I find a tiler on QuoteZila yet?
