How much does a window cleaner cost in Cheshire?

In Cheshire, a window-cleaning figure depends on the glass, the storeys and whether the visit is a one-off or a repeat. List the same panes, including any bay or roof glass, on every quote.

Last reviewed:

The round is the windows you list

A window cleaner in Cheshire is hired for glass you can point at, not for a national round rate. The rounds this guide begins with run through Crewe, Nantwich and Sandbach, and a bungalow is not the same visit as a three-storey terrace. This page does not print a figure, because we could not find two dated public sources that agree on one. It tells you how to make two quotes describe the same glass: the elevations, the storeys, any bay or roof glass, and whether the inside is included.

Start with a count you can do from inside. Ground-floor panes, first-floor panes, and anything above that. Bays count as more than one flat window if that is what you want cleaned. Skylights and a conservatory roof are not "the windows" unless you say they are. A quote for the front elevation is not a quote for the back, and a back that faces a narrow ginnel is not the same reach as a back that faces a lawn.

Say whether you want the outside only. Inside glass, fly screens, and the tracks of patio doors are easy to assume and easy to leave off. If you want them, list them. If you do not, say the visit stops at the outside face.

People often add a place-name when they search. The useful detail on QuoteZila is the postcode and the town, not a pile of nearby village names. Anyone in the UK can post a job or register. QuoteZila is new, so how many cleaners reply depends on who has joined near that postcode [QZ5].

One visit, or a round that comes back

A single visit before a house sale is a different agreement from a cleaner who comes every month. This page has no price for either pattern. Ask the quote to say which one it is. Ask what happens if you are out, if it rains on the day, and if you want to skip a visit. Those answers change the comparison even when the pane count is identical.

A regular round still needs a written scope. Which elevations, which extras, and whether the price is for the visit as a whole. Citizens Advice would rather see a fixed total than an open daily rate [S1]. Window cleaning is rarely priced as a building project, but the same habit helps: get it in writing, and be wary if the cleaner will not [S1]. Some traders charge for preparing a quote. Ask before they visit [S1]. Try to get written quotes from at least 3 traders when the job is large enough to be worth comparing, such as a tall house or a shopfront plus a house [S1].

If the only offer is a rate for time on site, ask how long they expect and what happens if it runs over [S1]. A daily rate on a bigger building job can be strung out unless days and hours are written down [S1]. A domestic window round is usually shorter than that, but an open-ended "we'll see how long it takes" is still a weak comparison.

Height is the cleaner's plan

Upper windows put a person where a fall could injure them. HSE defines work at height as any place where, if precautions were not taken, a person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury [S3]. A fall through a fragile roof is one of the examples on that page [S3]. The work has to be properly planned, appropriately supervised and carried out by competent people [S3]. HSE says to avoid work at height where it is reasonably practicable to do so [S3].

For you, that means you do not clean the first floor "to save the quote", and you do not leave a ladder out as the method the cleaner must use. Ask how they will reach the upper glass. You are asking for their plan, not choosing a technique from this guide. This page does not describe ladders, poles, or any sequence for working above the ground.

HSE: work at height. QuoteZila is not affiliated with this organisation.

A conservatory roof and a rooflight are the fragile-roof example, not a place to stand. If you want that glass cleaned, say so, and leave the access decision with the cleaner. If you do not want anyone on the roof, say that too. Window cleaners are the trade page. Cleaners are a different visit, aimed at the inside of a home rather than the outside glass.

Call-out lines and the paper total

Some adverts say there is no call-out charge. The Advertising Standards Authority says that kind of claim is only fair if the firm does not charge for travel to the premises, for the initial diagnosis or look on that visit, or for any other charge before the work is agreed [S4]. A window cleaner who comes to count panes and then invoices the visit, even if you say no, has not matched that claim. Ask the question before they set off.

The written price should say whether VAT is included [S1]. A business must register for VAT if taxable turnover for the last 12 months goes over £90,000, or if it expects to go over £90,000 in the next 30 days [S2]. Many window rounds sit under that line. Some do not. The threshold is not a price for your windows. It is why two quotes can look different before you have even compared the glass.

A quote is a fixed price. An estimate is a rough guess [S1]. The trader should not charge more than the quote unless you agree extra work or there was a genuine mistake in the written calculation [S1]. If you add the back of the house on the day, that is extra work. Agree it before it is done. Where a deposit cannot be avoided, do not agree more than 25%, and get a receipt [S1]. Pay by card rather than cash if you can, and avoid paying everything before the visit [S1]. Check insurance yourself [S1]. A much lower figure may be fewer panes, or a cleaner who will not do the upper floor [S1].

Gates, dogs, and water you do not want on the hall floor

Access changes the visit more than people expect. A locked side gate, a dog, a car that must stay on the drive, and a neighbour's path are worth a sentence each. You are not writing a risk assessment. You are stopping a quote that assumed an empty, open garden.

Say if the frames are rotten, if putty is loose, or if a pane is already cracked. A cleaner who is asked to scrub a failed sash may be blamed for a crack that was there. A photo from inside, taken before the visit, is a fair brief. Do not climb out to take it.

Interior sills and decorations that cannot get wet should be mentioned if anyone will open a window. If the quote is outside only, say the windows stay shut. Balconies and flat roofs over bays are not invitations. If the only way to a pane is across a roof, leave that pane off the list or leave the decision to the cleaner under the HSE rules above [S3].

Shops and rented flats need a different sentence from a house. Say if the glass is a shopfront, if you are the tenant, and if a landlord has asked for the clean. This page does not turn that request into a legal duty. It only helps you buy the visit you described.

Jobs you might post

These are examples, not taken from real job posts.

  • Outside glass only, two storeys, front and back. No conservatory. Ask how the upper panes will be reached. One-off visit.
  • Regular outside clean of a bungalow, including a small conservatory roof if the cleaner is willing to do it without anyone standing on the roof. Ask them to say if that roof is excluded.
  • Shopfront plus the flat above. State the shop hours when a vehicle cannot stop outside.

Reading the quotes

Match the pane list and the upper-floor plan before you match the money. The inside of the house, if you also want it cleaned, is closer to the house cleaner cost guide than to a window round. Do not add an indoor deep clean to one quote and then compare it with an outside-only price.

Questions about window cleaning

How much does a window cleaner cost in Cheshire?

A bungalow and a three-storey terrace are different rounds, and a one-off visit is different from a repeat. Compare quotes that list the same panes, including any bay, conservatory or rooflight. Say whether the inside of the glass is included.

Does the page tell you how to clean upper windows?

No. Work at height is any place where a person could fall a distance liable to cause injury, and HSE includes a fall through a fragile roof as an example. The work must be planned, supervised and done by competent people, and avoided where that is reasonably practicable. The cleaner's plan is theirs. Do not climb, and do not treat your own ladder as the method.

What if an advert says there is no call-out charge?

The Advertising Standards Authority says that claim is fair only when there is no charge for travel, for the initial look, or for any other amount before the work is agreed. Ask what, if anything, is due if you decline the quote.

Should the price say whether VAT is included?

Yes. Ask for that in writing. A business registers for VAT when taxable turnover for the last 12 months goes over £90,000, or is expected to within 30 days. The threshold is not a window price.

Is inside glass the same job as outside glass?

Only if the quote says so. Many visits are the outside only. Interiors, conservatory roofs and rooflights are extra lines until someone includes them. Put the list in the job so two quotes describe one visit.

Does QuoteZila check window cleaners?

No. We don't check insurance, qualifications or registrations, so please check these yourself before you hire. You can report a quote or a business from your job page.

Can I post window cleaning on QuoteZila?

Yes. Say how many storeys, whether you want a one-off or a repeat, and add a Cheshire postcode. Up to five matched local businesses can quote. QuoteZila is free for customers and local businesses.
